We know about several special products that are coming to Pokémon TCG in Sword and Shield era that will release next year: Meowth VMAX Special Collection Box, Toxtricity V Box, and a Galar Partner Tins. Let’s review them!

Meowth VMAX Special Collection Box

The box contains 5 booster packs, Meowth V (SWSH005), Meowth VMAX (SWSH006), jumbo card of Meowth VMAX and a code card for the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online. It will release on January 3rd. Let’s take a look at those two promo cards and their playability.

Meowth V

Meowth V has 180 HP which is quite low for a Pokémon V. Weakness to fighting is okay right now because there are not so many fighting Pokémon that are played a lot. The retreat of 2 is good. First attack Pay Day does 30 damage for one colorless energy and draws you a card. This attack is actually pretty good on the first turn, but not for two prize Pokémon like Meowth V. Second attack Slashing Claw does 130 for three Colorless energy. Now, this attack is quite weak because we got attacks like Stonjourner V´s Mega Kick which does 150 damage for the same amount of energy or Naganadel & Guzzlord Tag Team GX’s Jet Pierce which does 180 damage for the same amount of energy. So I wouldn’t use Meowth as the main attacker. There is no reason you would play Meowth V without his VMAX card.

Meowth VMAX

The first thing I like about this card is 300 HP. I know it’s the lowest of all the VMAXes we have seen, but it’s still really big HP. The retreat of 2 on this big Pokémon is great! The only attack on this card is G-Max Gold Rush which does 200 damage for four colorless energy and draws you three cards. This will KO basically every non-GX/V Pokémon. I like this attack because it guarantees you 200 damage while Lapras VMAX and Snorlax VMAX do not guarantee systematic damage. And what I like too is drawing cards, especially in early-game. However, four energy attack cost is a bit too high but we still got Triple Acceleration Energy so that wouldn’t be such a problem. I think this card has potential and may see some play.

Toxtricity V Box

The box contains 4 booster packs, Toxtricity V, jumbo card of Toxtricity V and a code card for the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online. It will release on February 27th. As you can see there is no Evolutions pack but instead of it, there is a Burning Shadows pack. Does it mean Burning Shadows is the new Evolutions/Steam Siege? Let’s look at what Toxtricity V does.

Toxtricity V

210 HP is big for Pokémon V (The most HP we’ve seen so far on V was 230 on a Zamazenta V). Weakness to fighting is fine and retreat of 2 is good. The first attack Energize lets you attach a lighting energy card from your discard to this Pokémon for colorless energy. If it did damage it would be a lot better. This attack is good, but again, not on a two prize Pokémon. Second attack Venom Slap does 120 damage + poison for 2 lightning and 1 colorless energy. This Pokémon works well with new Toxicroak from the SWSH Base set. Toxicroak’s ability says: If your opponent’s Active Pokémon is Poisoned, your opponent puts 2 more damage counters on it for Poison. So you can do 150 damage instead of 130. So this card is overall pretty good.

Rillaboom, Cinderace and Inteleon Galar Partner Tins

These three tins include 1 of 3 Pokémon V (Rillaboom V, Cinderace V or Inteleon V), 5 booster packs and a code card for the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online. It will release on February 27th. Let’s check the promo cards.

Rillaboom V

Rillaboom V has 220 HP which is really high, only 10 HP less than Zamazenta V. Weakness to fire is really bad right now because of Welder. The retreat of 3 is very high, so I would use U-Turn board or Escape Board to reduce it. First attack Forest Feast for one Grass energy lets you search your deck for up to 2 Basic Grass Pokémon and put them onto your Bench. The best about this attack is that you will put that Pokémon onto your Bench and not your Hand, so you can evolve that Pokémon on your next turn, good attack in the early-game. Second attack Wood Hammer does 220 for three Grass energy and one Colorless energy and also does 30 damage to itself. 220 damage for four energy is really cool, it will KO most of the GXes, but 30 damage to itself seems somewhat high. Nonetheless, I think this is one of the better Pokémon V we have seen so far.

Cinderace V

Cinderace V has 210 HP which is great. Weakness to Water is good because there are not much water Pokémon that see play, except for Keldeo GX and Slowpoke & Psyduck Tag Team GX. The retreat of 2 is good too. Ability Field Runner says: If a Stadium is in play, this Pokémon has no Retreat Cost. It doesn’t say it has to be yours, it can be your opponents too. In a Standard format, almost every deck uses a Stadium, Stadiums are a big thing right now and having a free retreat cost is amazing! Attack Crimson Legs does 140 damage for two fire energy and one colorless energy. You can use Welder to charge this Pokémon so you can attack on your second turn. Not the best attack, but not the worst either, it’s an average attack for a two prize Pokémon.

Inteleon V

And finally, Inteleon V. 200 HP is the lowest of these three but still quite great. Weakness to lightning is not ideal because Pikachu & Zekrom Tag Team GX still seems a huge lot of play. The retreat of 2 is good. First attack Snipe Shot does 40 damage to 1 of your opponent’s Pokémon for one Water energy (Don’t apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon). Doing damage to bench was always good, nothing to say about here. Second attack Aqua Report does 130 damage for two Water energy and one Colorless energy and reveals your opponent’s hand. 130 damage for three energy is average and looking at the opponent´s hand at the end of turn may be useless, so it is a basic attack.

What do you think about these special products? Are you buying any of these?

The black V design really fits the colors of Pokéspot well lol… Think they stole it from us? The cinderace artwork reminds of the pizza cats XD .. A very old cartoon from the 80’s… I think the starter Pokémon V cards will be very valuable for collectors as well!
